Busse Ruck

This Busse Ruck came to me as a user and the owner wanted to give it a satin finish and yellow liners.

Here is a Scrapyard Regulator that was given a full satin finish and convex edge.

Busse BOSS Jack

Heres a Busse Custom Shop Boss Jack that came to me coated. The owner wanted the coating stripped and a satin finish applied. I also added red liners before reattaching the handles.

Here is a Busse FAT Gamewarden that I modified the choil so you can fit your finger in it. It is a quite useful modification. I also gave the GW a convex edge.

Swamp Rat M9 LE

Here is a Swamp Rat M9 LE that came to me all scratched up. I cleaned it up and gave it a nice convex edge.

Swamp Rat Ratweiler

This Swamp Rat Ratweiler came pretty beaten up as you can see. I removed the handles and stripped it. I then gave it a nice satin finish and a crazy sharp convex edge. I left the coating underneath the handles for protection. Nothing like a beater turning into a like new knife.

A few different mods

Heres some random shots of a few different mods.

The first is a Tops 107C that I stripped, satined and made custom handles for.

The second is a Sarsquatch with a convex edge.

The third is a Horton that was saber and I made full convex.

Busse AK

This Busse AK came all beaten up. I gave it a full satin finish with a zero edge convex. The handles were reattached with flared tubing.

Busse SHBM

The owner of this rare Busse SHBM wanted me to remove the serrations on the blade and replace it with a thick convex edge.

Busse NMSFNO

This Busse NMSFNO I gave a full satin treatment with a zero edge convex. I then reinstalled the handles with some removable torx bolts.

Busse Basic 11

Here is a Busse Basic 11 that I removed the handle on and gave a satin finish with a polished V-edge. These B11s are very nice. I am a fan of the Res-C handle because of how comfortable it is to use.

Swamp Rat Waki

I havent had much time to grind lately but I was able to finish a couple of knife mods this week and here is one of them. This is a Swamp Rat Waki that came to me with a black coating  on it. The owner wanted me to give it a satin finish with a zero convex edge. They also wanted me to shorten the length of the handle so it wasn’t so long. I think it turned out pretty sweet. What do you guys think?

This Swamp Rat Ratmandu is my personal knife that I fully convexed and gave a zero edge modification. I hate to sell it but I am going to buy some new equipment and everything must go. It was a user but I just gave it a spa treatment and it is good as new.

The Busse Cultellus was a salmon roe knife for a few years and therefore has a slight pinkish tint to the micarta handles. I cleaned it up pretty good and it is super sharp. It comes with a tan kydex sheath from an unknown sheathmaker.

The Busse Fat Gamewarden is new and sports a zero convex edge. This fatty can cut. It comes with an OD Kydex sheath from Steelnut.

This Busse SAR 5 received a skeletonized tang and convex edge. I also sanded down the micarta handles so they weren’t as wide. The INFI dimples were left intact and the blade was given a semi satin finish.

I stripped and satined this Swamp Rat Rat Warden. I also rounded the spine all the way around. The owner says it feels much better in hand now. The Swamp Warden is a handy little knife.

Here are a couple of past projects that I did a while back. The Busse BATAC was a hard user that I gave a full convex zero edge removing the saber grind and replacing the handles with black allen bolts. The Scrapyard Regulator was also a saber grind and I made it a full convex zero edge.

This Busse BWM and Busse Skinny ASH both came coated. The owner of this pair wanted a satin finish and zero convex edge. The last request was to add some contrasting red liners. They make a great matching pair now.

This Busse Active Duty is unique because it has a Gamewarden handle on it. It to me with a white coating on it. The owner wanted me to give it a full satin finish with convex edge and also wanted me to remove the talon hole and enlarge the choil so you can choke up on it. The last request for this knife was to skeletonize the tang  so it would be lighter. I documented that in this post –> http://knifemods.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/skeletonized-tang/  .

Here is a thorough pictorial of a Swamp Rat Ratmandu knife modification. I like taking pictures in natural light and all of these pictures are all varying degrees of that to help show the satin finish and polished convexed edge. SR101 is an awesome steel that gets crazy sharp. I have included a short video of the RMD slicing some newspaper. I cut the video short because the wind kicked up but you get the idea.

Heres a Busse BWM from a while back that I gave a satin finish and convex edge. The BWM is a great chopper. Its not too thick and pretty quick in hand.

The FFBM is what I call half satin with a convex edge. This was done for the contrast in the raw and satin INFI. The Sarsquatch was modded on the spine and given a convex edge.

Busse AK

The Busse AK came to me with a coating on it. I removed the handles and stripped the blade. I then put a zero edge convex satin finish on it and reinstalled the handles with stainless tubing. The AK is definitely a Busse classic.

This Swamp Rat Ratmandu and Swamp Warden came with a black crinkle coat on them. I gave the RMD a satin finish with convex edge and black torx bolts. The Swamp Warden received a satin finish and a convex edge. I also radiused the spine all the way around to the choil. It feels much better in hand this way and you can use it for longer periods of time without your hand fatiguing.

I found this video from a couple years ago of me clearing a privet hedge with a convexed Busse FFBM. The mass of the FFBM makes it cleanly cut 2.5″ wood like it is nothing. I miss my FFBM and to make up for it I have a 1/4″ thick 18″ chopper in the works.

Super clean cut

After breaking a couple of expensive carbide drill bits I had enough of drilling hardened steel and decided to head down to my friends waterjet shop. My buddies over at Rustworks were able to help me out and make short work of skeletonizing the tang on a couple knives for a customer. If you are ever in need of a waterjet or metal fabrication service and live anywhere from Carmel to Napa (Central CA) don’t hesitate to contact Jeremy or Jesse over at Rustworks. They do some absolutely amazing work with all types of materials and are 2 of the nicest guys I know. With a client list that includes Apple, NASA, Cisco, Google and Tesla you can be assured that they know what they are doing.

A water jet is an impressive machine that is hard to believe until you see it. Witnessing a stream of water and grit cut steel and rock is amazing. Operating at 60,000 psi it can cut up to 4″ of steel and 6″ of stone. I took a video and some pictures to show you the process.

This came with a black crinkle coat on it from the factory and the owner wanted to make it satin with a convex edge. Handles were reinstalled with tubing.

Before

After

These 2 came with coatings on them and the owner wanted to make them a scratchy satin with convex edges. I reattached the handles with tubing.

Busse BATAC

This Busse CG BATAC came coated to me and the owner wanted me to remove the coating and give it a nice satin finish with a convex edge.

The Skinny ASH was a user and pretty beat up. The owner asked if I could clean it up and put a fresh edge on it. The Ratmandu was given a full satin finish with a convex edge. Ratmandus are one of my favorite Swamp Rat designs.

I removed the handles on this Swamp Rat Waki and gave it a full satin zero edge convex. The handles were then replaced with stainless Torx bolts.

This pair was given a full satin treatment and polished convex edge. The HRLM handles were reattached with black torx bolts and the RMD with tubing.

I removed the handles on this Gladius and gave it a nice satin finish along with a zero convex edge. I then reinstalled the handles with Torx bolts. Its hard to photograph a sword so I hope these photos show the blade well.
